central park model yacht club
Racing model sailboats on Central Park Conservatory Water since 1916.
Every Saturday from 10 AM to 1PM between early April and late November the Central Park Model Yacht Club races the International One Metre (IOM), a one-design class that's less expensive than similar size classes, helping to make the IOM the fastest-growing class in the world.
In 1916, a group of model boat enthusiasts met near Conservatory Water and founded the Central Park Model Yacht Club, an organization “determined to encourage those interested in designing, building and sailing model yachts.” 98 years later that goal hasn't changed.
Besides racing model sailboats, a lot of CPMYC's members are into designing and building their own pond yachts, from world-class racing IOM’s to vintage-design all-wooden sloops and schooners. We’re happy to share
resources, tips, and war stories with anyone who's interested.
